RECYCLE & SUSTAIN

Our recycled cotton is made from cutting waste supplied from local markets close by to where our factories are located. This waste is collected from different factories, different fabrics, different productions.

Cutting waste is separated by colour and then manually cleaned from any foreign materials. However, some impurities may still remain inside the waste and may show up in limited extend later on in the final fabric appearance. For example a bit darker or a bit thicker yarn. These impurities enhance the nature of the recycled product and should be seen as an asset, not as a defect.

The final shade of recycled cotton fabric depends on the initial colour assortments of the waste. Especially our heather colours and the natural raw variations are made with completely water free processes, and therefore may have some slight colour variations between different pieces.

To make our garments, recycled cotton is mixed with organic cotton, the embodiment of ethical and eco-responsible textile practices that underscore our clothing designs. Its cultivation pivots on ecological principles, swapping chemical fertilizers and pesticides for natural compost, safeguarding both farmers’ well-being and the purity of field waters.

But it doesn’t stop there; genetic modification is a strict no-go in the organic cotton realm, preserving ecosystems, nurturing biodiversity, and championing environmental equilibrium in the vicinity of cotton fields.

For us the choice is clear – we have integrated organic cotton into our material blends, elevating fabric quality and enhancing that luxe dry feel. We believe that both, impurities and colour shading, prove the true story of our recycled process.

Here below the added values infused in every OM piece:

OEKO-TEX® CERTIFIED

OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 is one of the world’s best-known labels for textiles tested for harmful substances.
Every OM Clothing item is OEKO-TEX® certified, so you can be certain that every component (every thread and accessory) has been tested for harmful substances and that the article therefore is harmless for human health.

MADE ETHICALLY BY HUMANS

Joining the continuous effort to improve working conditions in the supply chain, we ensure all our products are manufactured in production facilities with a valid social audit according to the Amfori BSCI auditing framework and Code of Conduct. This framework upholds strict social standards in line with international conventions like the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and International Labour Organization (ILO).

AWARE™ AND RESPONSIBLE

Aware™ technology makes data public to track and validate the end-to-end impact of sustainable textiles from origin to consumer. The Aware™ process begins with embedding a physical tracer in the sustainable textile at source. Scanning, using the Aware™ hand scanner, enables instant verification along the entire value chain. Production data logged on public blockchain by every supplier creates a digital twin and virtual flow that follows the physical material flow forward. Every step is validated by Aware™’s digital tokens – the world’s first crypto TCs. This innovative platform transforms a system hidden behind private databases into a democratic, open and user friendly platform. Shoppers can access the Aware™ Virtual ID, which is a digital product passport showing all data and making better, fully informed choices.

All our products use the Aware™ blockchain application. Every step of the process is registered and recorded using a physical tracer. Once the production process ends, the data is offered directly from the first-hand makers of the products and the producers. All environmental impact data, and the complete journey of each garment are registered and can be traced back for full transparency. Knowledge is power.

WEAR & CARE

Did you know that the way you care for your clothes has the biggest impact on their longevity and environmental footprint? You can significantly reduce this impact by treating and washing them mindfully.

Wash Less, Wear More: Many clothes are washed more often than needed. Instead of reaching for the washing machine, try airing out your garments to refresh them. This not only saves water and electricity but also helps your clothes last longer.

Cool It Down: Always follow the care instructions, but remember—the temperature on the label is the maximum. Washing at lower temperatures, like 30 degrees, is just as effective with the right detergent and uses less energy. This simple change can make a big difference in reducing your environmental impact.

Choose Eco-Friendly Detergents: Opt for detergents with eco-labels, such as The Swan (Nordic countries) or the EU Flower (in the EU), to ensure a gentler impact on the planet.

Maximise Every Load: When washing, make sure to fill up the machine. A good rule of thumb is to leave enough space for a clenched fist above the clothes.

Spot-Treat Stains: If you spot a stain, treat it according to the care instructions before tossing the item into the wash. Often, a little liquid dish detergent is all you need. Once the stain is gone, you might not even need to wash the whole garment.

Air Dry for Longevity: Skip the tumble dryer whenever possible. Hanging your clothes to dry saves energy and is gentler on the fabric, helping your pieces breathe properly and stay in top condition for longer. If you’re into ironing, make sure you do so inside-out and take it easy on the printed parts.

Mend and Repair: Don’t let a broken zip or a missing button be the end of your favorite piece. Keep spare buttons and take a little time to repair minor damages. This simple effort can significantly extend the life of your clothes, keeping them in rotation for years to come.

Swap and Refresh: Outgrown that sweater or never got around to wearing those trousers at the back of your closet? Swap them with friends! You might just find your new favorite outfit while giving your gently used clothes a second life.

Pass It On: If you’ve moved on from certain items, pass them on to someone else or donate them for recycling. Giving your clothes a new home not only prolongs their life but also reduces waste.

Recycle & Renew: When your garment has reached the end of its lifecycle, don’t just toss it. Recycle it to give the fibers a new lease on life, just like the ones we offer. By doing so, you help close the loop on waste and contribute to a more sustainable future for fashion and our beautiful planet at large.
